FWIS: New Year’s Goals

From Where I Stand is a monthly blog feature I host with Bria Quinlan and Abby Mumford. Stop by and see what they have to say about this month’s topic!
Which is of course our writing plans for the new year. It’s strange. I used to be so very very Type A, OCD, anal retentive. I still am about certain things but I just can’t be that organized about most of life right now. I don’t have a five-week plan let alone a five-year one.
I used to be very rigid about my writing. I had exact word counts mapped out and giant notecard scenelists and what not. I think, though, it was because I didn’t trust my gut. It was easier to follow a schedule. Not that that’s the only reason or anything, but mixed in there.
So… no schedule. This year, I have to write a new book. I drafted the back half of HSL last year but that was it for completely new material. It makes me kind of twitchy to have gone so long, but I did revise a hell of a lot of stuff. Repeatedly. So it’s not like I was unproductive in 2011. I just. need. to write a new book though. My next magical realism is tickling my cerebral cortex at the moment, and I’m about to dive into what I hope is the last decent revision of AY before it goes forward in the publishing process.
Which brings me to my actual goal of 2012. Besides writing AOG, the next MR, and revising AY and surely HSL, I get to spend the year learning about publishing and working on marketing! Wheee!! I am SO excited about this, dear friends. I get to do a copy edit! And learn about marketing plans! And maybe make a Facebook fan page! And maybe GET A COVER! And all sorts of oh, yeah, my book comes out next year type stuff.
I’m a big dork and this stuff fascinates me, so it should be fun.
Oh, and yeah, write AOG. I’m working on a loose scene list. I feel much less organized about it and am just trusting my gut since it’s been so long since I started a new book. But more on that on Friday.
This sounds completely awesome! I can’t wait to see the progress you make during the year. Thanks to your blog I get to see whats going on which makes me as giddy as a little kid in a book store. Good luck writing without a script. I have a feeling you’re going to love it. Looking forward to what comes next!
